Loch Haven Lake offers four-season recreational club membership opportunities
and facilities for company & private events.
History of Loch Haven Lake
For decades Loch Haven Lake has existed in a peaceful, forested
setting. The history of the man-made lake began in 1930 when Mr.
Davidson built a concrete dam. The dam is 25 feet tall, 77 feet
long, 4 feet thick at the top and 9 feet thick at the bottom.
This dam produced a lake fed by three small creeks and three
underwater springs. Mr. Davidson also built several picnic
shelters and a sandy beach along the lake shore. In 1946, Mr.
Noel Preece, an Englishman who had also been a sheep herder in
Australia, purchased the property and began building stone
walls, cabins and the party house. After Mr. Preece’s death in
1961, Mrs. Preece continued to run Loch Haven Country Club. She
catered weddings, parties and rented cabins and club facilities.
In 1993, Mrs. Preece died and her son Skye Preece took over
ownership and management of Loch Haven Club. In 2001, Skye
Preece sold Loch Haven Lake to the Bane family, Gene and Becky
Bane and their three children Katye Bane Oliver, Ember Bane, and
Rylie Bane Elliott. The Bane family maintains the legacy of the
past 60+ years in continuing to provide Roanoke’s only
year-round outdoor recreation membership club as well as party
house and picnic shelter rentals available to the outside
community for events and weddings. The property is 73.9 acres
which includes the six-acre lake. The lake has been stocked with
large-mouth bass and bluegill. The property consists of five
long-term rental residences, a party house, 3 picnic shelters, a
tennis court, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, ping-pong,
canoes and kayaks, hiking trails, a stone fire-pit and a white
sand beach.
